A math teacher by day and a self-proclaimed “Professional Math Pirate” by night, Matthew loves combing the Internet for new and interesting ways to bring math to life in the classroom and help equip his students to become 21st century learners.
Jaspreet loves puppies, food, and traveling (not necessarily in that order). When not indulging in those things, she can be found in the ivory towers of Beaudry at LAUSD where she is the “STEAM Coordinator” for the north-east district (yes, it is as important as it sounds).
Data from a randomized controlled trial of 4,620 students across the state show the significant impact that treatment, gender and ethnicity had on student achievement as measured by 8th Grade Math SBAC scores. Even with the historic negative effects of ethnicity, students in the treatment group still outperformed students in the control group by statistically significant margins.
Students improved in standardized test results after just one year of engaging in math lessons developed by teachers using the ICMath approach.
